Knowledge Compilation Using Theory Prime Implicates
نویسنده
چکیده
In this paper, we are mainly concerned with logical compilations of propositional knowledge bases. We propose a new approach to equivalence-preserving knowledge compilation based on a generalization of the standard notion of prime implicate, the theory prime implicates. Our approach consists in taking advantage of tractable theories implied by the knowledge base to make local by computing the theory prime implicates of w.r.t. . As a main result, query answering from theory prime implicates compilations can be done in time polynomial in their sizes. While there is no guarantee that the size of a compilation is not exponentially greater than the size of the original knowledge base, we show that it is smaller than the size of the prime implicates compilation in the general case and it can even be exponentially smaller. Additionally, we present some experimental results providing evidence for the substantial space savings achievable with our compilation technique.

Computing Theory Prime Implicates in Modal Logic
The algorithm to compute theory prime implicates, a generalization of prime implicates, in propositional logic has been suggested in [16]. In this paper we have extended that algorithm to compute theory prime implicates of a knowledge base X with respect to another knowledge base Y using [2], where Y is a propositional knowledge base and X |= Y , in modal system T and we have also proved its co...

We provide a knowledge compilation technique which deals with the computational intractability of first order reasoning problems. The notion of prime implicates is extended to theory prime implicates in first order case. We provide an algorithm to compute the theory prime implicates of a knowledge base X with respect to a knowledge base Y where both X and Y are assumed to be in Skolem Conjuncti...
متن کاملA New Algori m for Computing Theory mplicates Compilations
We present a new algorithm (called TPI /BDD) for computing the theory prime implicates compilation of a knowledge base X. In contrast to many compilation algorithms, TPI /BDD does not require the prime implicates of Z to be generated. Since their number can easily be exponential in the size of X, TPI/BDD can save a lot of computing. Thanks to TPI/BDD, we can now conceive of compiling knowledge ...
متن کاملAn Incremental Knowledge Compilation in First Order Logic
An algorithm to compute the set of prime implicates of a quantifierfree clausal formula X in first order logic had been presented in earlier work. As the knowledge base X is dynamic, new clauses are added to the old knowledge base. In this paper an incremental algorithm is presented to compute the prime implicates of X and a clause C from π(X) ∪ C. The correctness of the algorithm is also proved.
متن کاملImplicates and Prime Implicates in Random 3-SAT
It has been observed previously that Random 3SAT exhibits a phase transition at a critical ratio of constraints to variables, where the average frequency of satissability falls abruptly from near 1 to near 0. In this paper we look beyond satissability to implicates and prime implicates of non-zero length and show experimentally that, for any given length, these exhibit their own phase transitio...
